1 Sam 8:6-9

1 Samuel 8:6-9
KJV 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. 7 And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. 9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and show them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

1 Samuel 8:6-9
Revised English Version

6But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” Samuel prayed to Yahweh. 7Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not be king over them.8According to all the works that they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also to you. 9Now therefore listen to their voice; however you must protest solemnly to them and must show them the way of the king who will reign over them.”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

6 Samuel was unhappy because of this but he took it the Lord. When others displease us we often times want to handle it but we should be taking these things to the Lord.

7 God tells Samuel to listen to them, this was the people saying they didn’t want God over them but wanted a man in charge, The people wanted to be like everyone else but they were different and that was a blessing, God had a plan for an earthly King, He will reign one day.

8 Israel kept leaving God to serve other gods, we need to stay loyal to the Lord and serve Him in the good and bad times both, nothing is worth turning to if it means we turn away from the Lord.

9 They wanted a king but God was going to pick him, they weren’t. God sometimes gives us what we want but does it the way He chooses, this is mercy because He could let us choose our further failure. They would have chosen and king and this most likely would have caused them to fall and be no more because this is what sin does.
